This is an amazing experience. Food is based on the region’s products with oysters from the coast and foie gras from the Dordogne. Wines are excellent value. Preparation is modern French with Asian influences. Castle is beautifully situated next to cathedral and abbey. Well worth a long detour!

My 2nd time at this beautiful restaurant. The beautiful setting, lovely food and delicious wine was rounded out by the outstanding service from Mr Khou. He was personable, attentive and knowledgeable. I'll definitely be coming back.

My second visit to this restaurant in the magnificent small town of Saint-Savin. The restaurant is just next to the UNESCO world heritage Church and the former monastery (now museum). The restaurant has been completely renovated to the highest standards (I‘m just doing a renovation in the region and admire what they‘ve done) and offers a modern pleasant interior and a wonderful terrace overlooking thé river Gartempe (unfortunately closed because the sun protection was broken due to a storm). We had booked a table for four at 1pm and arrived exactly on time. We were told there would be a minimal wait of max 15mins which we could spend on the terrace taking an apéritif. I didn’t think the terrace in full sun at 32 degrees was a good idea so we were lead to a pleasant garden with trees. In the end our table was ready after a little bit more than a 30mins wait. Not happy about it. But they apologised and offered us a glass of Champagne each which we declined because of the heat. Still they took the three bottles of water and one glass of wine of the check and apparently later called my son to apologise again and offer me something next time I came back. So let’s leave it at that. Besides the food was quite good, though I think it was better last year. What I missed was a vegetarian option for the set menu. Altogether there was only one vegetarian meal on the menu which I find not very convincing in today‘s times and especially in summer. I shall give it another try another time nevertheless

Wonderful setting, good menu and good wine list. Some will find some elements of the menu challenging, but actually the ingredients have been selected to work together very well. Desserts were excellent, particularly the panna cotta. The service was generally good, attentive without being pushy, menu was explained well and our questions answered clearly. Some allergies, such as gluten-free, can be accommodated with advanced notice. Overall an great experience, just some service improvements to make it excellent.

Delicious food and marvelous staff. French classics with some different touches. Interesting wine program where you can pick from their retail collection and enjoy a bottle (or 2) for a small corkage fee.

A real gem in the middle of the country side. Food is very fresh and well prepared and presented, service is good and prices are very reasonable for the quality of dinning experience you are getting. Comparing to star rated restaurants, there is still room for improvement here. Small mistakes in service such as timing of adding the sauce to the plates at the table, tasting added bottles when getting opened and serving all diners at the same time are things to note. The food as well is short of Michelin stars for uniformity of the pieces of fish and meat as well as detailed attention in preparation of garnish. With all these pointers, this is still an amazing experience for fraction of what you would pay for it in NY, Paris or any other culinary city.

Absolute gem of a place in a sleepy and historic village of St Savin. Part of the Abbey has been converted into a restaurant. The chefs are young and eager, same with the staff. The wine is clearly displayed and prices displayed-for you to make your choices.
